    Why?

What are you trying to achieve?

Are you really thinking or the ones where yo plug an adapter into your mains electric wall socket and then use the electric mains cabling to transmit the signal?

Probably damaged a couple of wires laying laminate flooring and want to locate the router upstairs.
Saves messing about with new wiring.

  • Hmm, not sure how good they will be for sending a broadband signal? They work well for phone lines, but I don't even know if they will carry the broadband. Can you leave the router downstairs and send the broadband upstairs with homeplugs.

these are good depending on what ones you get, only thing is to make sure that the two plugs are on the same mains wiring

That is incorrect, Homeplugs do not require the two plugs to be connected to the same ring mains-therefore they will work across the separate upstairs/downstairs ring mains found in most properties.

Thanks for the replies - much appreciated.

Went into Maplins yesterday for a look and strangely the assistant stated it had to be on the same ring-main. This was a Belkin brand and he put me off by stating that the phone would work OK, but probably issues with the router.
Leave it as it is at the moment. £100 price tag wasn't what I was hoping for either. lol. I was hoping for about half that price, maybe just a tad more. :o

The assistant is not correct. You can easily buy a pair of 200MBps Homeplugs for around £50 on Amazon etc
