not strictly de-cluttering, but where do people keep their winter duvets in summer, and their summer duvets in winter?
a kingsize 15 tog is such a bulky item, and the kids both have double size ones. It's a big space to find.Ellie

I think its one of those facts of life that you only have an urgent need for obscure items the minute the bin men have taken them away, regardless of how many year you have hoarded them for...0

We only ever use our summer duvet. I use a vacuum bag to store the winter one, it's in the loft somewhere I think.
The vac bags work really well. I've used them for all my spare bed linen too.
I got mine from Lakeland, but you can get them from lots of places. The ones they do now seem better than the ones I bought. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/product.aspx/!20960_209610 -
Isn't it interesting that men who complain about their partner's 'clutter' stored in the house have a shed full of 'useful things'??

That is soooo true, and a perfect reason for not hoarding.
If you've kept something for years and then need it just after binning it, what a waste of time all that hoarding was. Might as well just chuck it out straightwaway and get it over with :rotfl:(That's my argument anyway)0 -
Aril wrote:I only have a small house and I'm a tidy person so I declutter once a month. I do find that there are some things that I do hang on to eg margarine pots are great for the freezer but I have allocated spaces for them. With glass jars and bottles that I know will be used [other ones go straight into recycling] I have a cardboard box in the garage. Once it's full I then put all subsequent jars into recycling or I swap one. You have to be fairly ruthless. I also have a box in our spare room next to the pc where I keep scrap paper for lists etc. It also pays to regularly check what you've got pinned up on your notice board and what's in your intray if like me you have one for post. I even have a drawer for receipts for doing accounts so I can shred them monthly. I buy clothes a year in advance for my son and then keep them in the top of his wardrobe in bags etc etc I even keep a bag going for stuff for the charity shop on the go all the time so I can keep slinging stuff in there [I've just turned out all summer clothes that small person has outgrown in preparation for the jumble sale coming up this Sat]. I've also got my own small craft basket that sits behind my arm chair [I,m one for hiding things] and an old linen basket in my bedroom where I keep all my lovely scrap fabrics and odds and ends of ribbon. I pretty much know what I've got most of the time but maybe I'm a bit anal about it all. I like to have organised and manageable treasures!!

Oh I dream of being this organised. I shall keep this post as inspiration!I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

Don't be too impressed....I threw away some valid theatre tickets once whilst chucking out a load of paper in the recycling [they never did turn up!!] and have on occasion had to wade through the big box where I store it in the garage before it goes to the recycling at the dump for valid vouchers that I've accidentally chucked whilst getting rid of out of date ones!!

I manage to roll my kingsize summer/double winter ones into large pillow cases,( that match the bedding) and they stay on top of the bed either as a decorative item ( that looks appropriate;) ....) or you can use it as a "spare pillow"
If you find you can't fit them in a regular size case, then open out a bedspread/sheet ( that contrasts) put the rolled up duvet inside sort of sausage roll style, then tie up the ends of the bedspread/sheet ( like a christmas cracker;) I use lace to tie up the ends ...........)
Then you have a nice squishy ( and might I say very comfy) large bolster:D

What an excellent idea, guineapig! I think I'll get looking for a suitable cover for when mine comes off this spring.Sealed Pot Challenge 5 - #1742 :j0

I just open mine out and keep it under the mattress then change them over when needed.Do this with all beds/quilts in the house.
