How do they balance the wheels when they come to your home?

Am so glad I thought of looking here first - I need two new tyres and one repaired for my (rather old and battered) car, and was um-ing and ah-ing over Kwik Fit's online prices..! I will check out all the sites listed, thank you everyone!

I have to echo garyparson though - how on earth DO they balance tyres when they come to your home? I presume they must have some technology to do it with in the van, as even Kwik Fit offer mobile fitting (at a cost of an additional £20, of course!), but I'm sitting here, scratching my head, trying to work out how they do it!
  • Used e-tyres a couple of weeks ago - really good. It was for my partners car as I didnt have time to take her car in and she didnt want to take her carto a garage with 3 small children so them coming to us worked well. Price was cheaper than anywhere else and MUCH cheaper than blackcircles who always used to be cheap. Gay knocked on the door, gave him the keys and 45 mins later all done.

Small problem with balancing not quite right, but one phonecall and he was back - very appologetic, and then called my partner back a couple of hours later to check that everything was OK. Very pleased and will use again.

I used Black Circles 2 weeks ago. Had no problem at all. Customer service was excellent.
I will be using them again.

I've used event tyres and thought they were great - much cheaper than Kwikfit and better service (I had two punctures in almost as many weeks). Full thoughts in my event tyres review if you're interested.

But essentially Event were £50 cheaper and didn't keep me hanging around - just turned up when they said. No more visiting garages for me ...

Its easy to haggle with Kwik Fit (but suppose it depends on how friendly the person is who answer the phone/sees you). a local garage quoted me £60 inc fitting for a tyre, Kwik Fit quote on phone was £102.....but they agreed to price match! Masive mark up in price!
