Travel Money

My husband and I are soon to go on an extended holiday visiting Singapore Australia New Zealand Fiji and USA and we would like to know the best way to handle our spending - should we use a pre paid card and if so which one is best for the different currencies we will be using?

Comments

  • Whatever you decide take a back-up of 3. We take a couple of pre-paid cards.

I would suggest a Metro bank debit card (zero fees at all), a couple of pre-paid cards, some cash plus your usual cards as a final back-up. You're not going anywhere too exotic so you should have no problems there, but some UK banks seem to block cards for the fun of it.

Halifax Clarity Card. No charges even withdrawing cash from ATMS (ATM supplier may charge though). Used it all over the world including Australia, new Zealand and USA

No fee for withdrawing, but you get charged interest straight away?? Is that right?? I received my halifax clarity today to use in India and wherever else I might find myself soon :j

yes you get charged interest from the point of withdrawal, but I mitigate that by paying into the credit card account after I have withdrawn money. You don't have to wait until you get your statement. I did this about once per week

Don't put your account into credit though, that is not allowed according to the T&Cs
