Make sure they drive through The Trossachs. A good website to check out is Undiscovered Scotland.

Make sure they bring lots of money and use the Tourist Information service. It would be a good idea to book accomodation in advance.

And remember, there is no such thing as bad weather in Scotland, just the wrong clothes!

This may be the castle Becles visited, its certainly child friendly and you can even stay there.

Another not to be missed attraction near Oban is the Rare Breeds Park owned by the lovely David and Barbara Smith.

It wasn't that one. I've remembered now - it was this one:
    http://www.inveraray-castle.com

It has masses of swords and armour in which my youngest has always been interested in.

It was a rainy day when we visited, so we didn't do the gardens. They have a cafe which was serving home made scotch broth, and it smelled and tasted fabulous!
Here I go again on my own....

Fife is nice if you like little coastal towns, it has lovely blue flag beaches at elie which is a nice place to visit and for childs activities the best places i would say is cupar deer centre, camperdown park in dundee etc.

if you want to go further up then fort william is lovely and scenic, not sure what there is to do for children there.

Ayrshire is good. The beach at Ayr will be great in the roasting summer we'll get, and there's amusements, a castle and country park (Culzean), and it's near to the main road heading up to Glasgow.

Or Edinburgh would be fun and educational - the castle plus the obscura, the dungeons etc.

Another great place to visit for the day would be New Lanark. It has beautiful walks up to the falls, plus you could visit the mills.
