British Gas electricity bill

I have just received my electricity bill up to Dec 1 2006. As usual it was an estimate - a GROSS over-estimate. It took them 6 weeks to send it out - internet billing. if I take 6 weeks to pay them, they will fine me £5 !

The problem I have is; do I pay the full amount now or do I send them a more accurate meter reading and cut the bill in half ? My decision is complicated by any price rises in the pipeline (pun, intended !). According to the BG website my bill tariff is effective from Sept 2006, however I am sure that I saw that BG were increasing their prices in the New Year. If they are, I will be better off paying the whole lot now and getting electricity that I haven't used yet at last year's prices.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some info on BG price rises please ?

Just to show what a chaotic organisation BG is, there are actually three different amounts shown on my bill ! which one shall I pay !?!?!?
Extracts shown below !

Electricity used £249.52
VAT £12.47
Bill amount £235.99

Cost of Electricity used excluding VAT £249.52
VAT at 5.00 % £12.47
Total cost of Electricity used £261.99

current balance: £ 230.99

The BG tariffs that increased in Sept are not changing.

It is only BG Click Energy prices that changed this month - they didn't go up last Sept.

You have apparently used £261.99 worth of electricity(including VAT) presumably the lower amount is because you either had some credit carried forward or discounts applied to your bill(dual fuel? paperless billing?)

    Well spotted, Sir !

The £26 difference between two of the figures is my "one months free electricity" (if only it did cost that !) which I had forgotten about and the other £5, which they don't seem to have actually paid me, is my "paperless" discount.

It would have been nice if the bill had said that.

I'll have to work out an "actual" meter reading for 1st Dec now.

See the thread I have just started on BG's on-line billing.

They have scrubbed much of the history on some accounts. However to find that £5 for paperless billing go to 'old bill' then 'payment history' and it should just be shown as 'credit'
