Long weekend in October

Hi, I am hoping to go away for a long weekend with hubby at the beginning of October. We would like to go somewhere with a little sun, not talking about sunbathing weather but just warmer than the UK. As it is only a long weekend (3/4 nights) we were thinking Portugal as it is not too far to fly.
Can anyone let me know what the weather is like in Portugal then?
Does anyone have any other suggestions of where we could go?
