Greek recommendations please

We are thinking of going to one of the Greek islands next summer.
So I am asking if anyone can recommend an aparthotel (need to have a separate bedroom) and be within a 10 min walk to a sandy beach (no pebbles or rocks). We would like preferably HB or B&B.
We don't want a clubby place, but like to be able to walk around the local shops etc in the evening.

La luna apartments in Troulos Skiathos. Not suitable for those with walking or mobility difficulties. I went with First choice so presume it will be Thomson for next summer.Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!0

Probably the main thing to consider is do you want to go on package holiday, or do you want to travel independently on a DIY type holiday? That will greatly influence choice.
A package holiday offers convenience, whereas a DIY holiday gives you much greater flexibility - for example you can visit more than one island, have something other than 7/14 nights, more flexibility on airports/airlines/flight times, you have access to many more islands (and you can avoid being stuck in a hotel full of Brits) and really get away from the crowds.
There a probably around 15 islands that are easily accessable to package tourists, whereas for DIY type holidays there are probably over 100 but not all of these are worth visiting.
Exactly what island will be suitable depends on a lot on your preferences - do you just want a decent beach or do you want some history? How prepared are you to get away from the beaten track or do you want to be 20 minutes from the airport? What budget? Do you want a busy island or a quiet island - I was on one with less than 500 people on a couple of summer ago which is probably too quiet. Do you want to hire a car and get about a bit?
I would recommend going to the Greece forum on Tripadvisor and ask there, listing the sort of things you are looking for - there are a lot of people there with some very detailed knowledge who are very keen to help.0 -
what about Lindos in Rhodes? Its a lovely little place with plenty of bars and restaurants, many with rooftop terraces where you can eat and look out over the Acropolis and village. Manos offer a lovely place called the Phillipos Apts. It's on the way to St Pauls bay where there is a nice beach and it would take you minutes to get to the bars etc.
They have a 2 bed apartment so you could have a spare room. It is only SC though but fresh breakfast food is available at the lovely bakery in the village!
It might be worth having a look at the Manos brochure as there are some nice authentic places to stay in Greece. You can view it online at thomascook.com just go to brochures right at the very bottom. You can also order one there.:beer:0 -
Thanks, it has given me food for thought
