Dirty Dancing - Bristol - Rip-Off

As soon as tickets came on sale for Dirty Dancing at Bristol Hippodrome, my wife was insistent that we go for her birthday (last night).

So, I booked two "PREMIUM" seats in the Grand Circle at £75 per person (plus all the various charges that go with them).

I noticed a week ago that all of the seats around ours were still available and that they were now only £44.50 per ticket.

The "PREMIUM" seat tag had gone from the ticket website.

I contacted Bristol Hippodrome to ask why I had been charged £75 for each of my "PREMIUM" seats - which were now classed as regular seats at £44.50.

I asked for a refund of the difference and was told "tough".

I asked how my seats were classed as "PREMIUM" and what that gave me over and above the std seats they were now selling either side of ours. They didn't have an answer and blamed everything on "the promoter".

So, I asked for the contact details for "the promoter" and was told by the Box Office at Bristol Hippodrome "sorry, we don't have that information"

I then asked to speak with the Duty Manager so I could get the details and was told "he's not available and you'll have to write to him". I didnt have any luck trying to get a Duty Manager when we went last night either.

My complaint is the way in which the seats were "PREMIUM" at £75 one day and then became std seats at £44.50 the next day. What incentive is there for people to advance purchase tickets if the promoter is then going to repay your advance purchase by making you feel ripped-off.

Given the "choose your own seat" ticketing systems now available on most booking sites, I suggest that every theatre goer refuses to buy tickets in advance and we all just wait until the last minute to see how prices go. The theatre industry would be bankrupt within months, yet they treat their customers so poorly.

Got it off my chest now - just got to find the promoter details and send my complaint off to them.

Probably The Ambassador Theatre Group (Venues) Ltd unless the posters say 'xyz presents...', if so, they're the promoter.
  • Went to see DD last night at the Hippodrome, Bristol, got chatting to the couple next to us about the show in the interval, who happened to mention that they had paid around £44 for their tickets and that wasn't it odd that some people had paid £75!!! My husband was so not pleased with this information as he had been moaning constantly about how much the tickets cost him (total of £85 each) and he had assumed it was because the show was so popular. I did think it odd as we usually pay around £45ish mark. They had booked in advance and so had we.

Looks as if we will have to wear it then.
