Home phone tariff - no internet connection, please!

Can anyone advise, please? I have an elderly neighbour. She spends £80 a month on her BT 'phone bill. Can you believe it? £80! She doesn't have much money too and is too old-fashioned and uninformed to know how to get on a better tariff. I have tried but all I can find when I look for better deals are Internet-only offers or bundled-with-Internet-and-TV deals.

Does anyone know of a basic Talk-anytime tariff, but with NO internet or TV-linked options to it. Basic, basic, basic!

Thanks in advance. I just want to save her money.

Adrian

Just switch her to BT Anytime. This assumes that the £66pm or so currently billed for calls is mainly made up of UK landline daytime calls (not premium rate nos, mobile nos, etc)? She'll get those unlimited for £5.99pm.
BT are not the cheapest supplier, but that's the least painful and quickest way to save her money-about £60 per month.

Before you jump in with both feet, you need to know WHY her bill is £80/month. Then you will know what kind of tariff to look for - or even if there is something very wrong which needs to be put right. Possibly she has been sold some internet and TV package which she does not use and does not need? An attempt to shift her to a different supplier could then bring down contract exit charges and a whole lot more trouble.

  • All good suggestions. Thank you all. BT Anytime. Will look into. Hopefully it's just a phone deal. Thanks. Am now away for 7 days but will come back after my break.

    Thanks all again.

BT's Unlimited Anytime calls plan is currently £4.70 month and that gives unlimited UK 01/02/03 calls of up to 60 minutes each and inclusive 0845/0870 calls up to a maximum of 1000 minutes or 150 calls per month.

Basic line rental (currently £13.90/month) has to be paid in addition to that.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

BT anytime is a phone only deal if she is making lots of calls to mobiles, overseas or 0871etc in might not be very useful. The other things to watch are don’t use 1471 then dial 3 to connect the call and make sure you don’t stay on the line for over an hour.
