So a foreign particle entered the cambelt area causing the damage?

Isn't there a cover on the cambelt on that car, so how did the foreign particle get in. Did they not fit the cover properly, is the cover damaged and if so did they inform you of this and recommend replacing it?

£220 sounds a bit low for a proper job. If you asked for a cambelt change and they only changed the cambelt then that is your problem. You should have asked for a full cambelt kit. Pulleys and tensioners don't last forever but aren't normally changed unless you specify a full cambelt kit (and pay for it).

Not necessarily some franchise garages do deals for owners of older model cars. Not every manufacturer has to change pulleys and tensioners unless there is a known problem i.e. early Ford diesels.

Read the back of the invoice it should give the garages terms and conditions. Ask to see the cambelt it should have been a genuine Honda one, and it should have lasted longer than just over a year.

I've seen cars running without a cambelt cover on and it must have been a big foreign object to wreck the cambelt.

i have heard many times that when doing this job the water pump should also be changed (when driven by the same belt) as these are justas likely to need attention at roughly the same mileage.

Is this something taht may have needed replacement that coould have contributed to an early failure on the new belt?

Certainly 13K miles seems poor if correctly installed. Whilst they say change at X miles that in itself should allow a tolerance for missing the replacement interval.

That seems pretty unreasonable to me. 1 year or 60k dosn't make any sence at all... how are you going to do 60k in a year?

Taxis do. Police cars do. I was averaging 150k a year at one point as a lorry driver and only driving 11hrs a day 5 days a week with much of it not being faster than 56MPH.
