Unfair Parking ticket

My mum works as a night nurse at an elderly care home in Twickenham. She was returning home from work on Sunday 14th August, the day of the Olympic cycle test event, and after confirming most of her route was blocked off she went to stay at a friend’s house (although I am fan of cycling these road closure were excessive – buts that’s another story). However the road where my mum’s friend lives is quite narrow so they allow you to mount you car on the pavement.

Here is where Richmond borough council are tosspots. Despite not parking on a yellow line or doing anything different to the other cars, she was given a fine. Why? Apparently you have to park in the designated white lines (shown in the pics), which is pretty subtle to say the least. This seems like a deliberate ploy to fine motorists and gain extra revenue as other councils (or at least in the Kingston borough where I live) clearly have yellow lines in between pavement mounted parking spaces indicating where you are not allowed to park. Naturally we wrote a letter to appeal this decision, but we also included the £55 cheque to cover us before they double it after 2 weeks. They replied saying a decision would be made after an investigation but seeing as they had decided to cash the cheque it looks like we can work out the answer to that one (though they haven’t formally replied yet).

So what can we learn from this post?

A) Richmond borough council are knobs and are unfairly milking us of £55
B)Be careful where you park, even if you think it looks ok and there are no lines by the side of the road
C) Don’t go out and about during the Olympic cycling event next year as you won’t be able to travel anywhere.

Edit: Looks like I am not allowed to post links at the moment as this is my first post here. When I am allowed to then I will attach the photos.

NEVER send a cheque as well if appealing a real (Council) Parking ticket.

    It's 'game over' now.

Should have gone to pepipoo, they get most people off most Council PCNs:

Next time take the right advice at the time of the PCN - and if you/Mum ever get a fake PCN 'parking charge notice' from a private firm (e.g. in a supermarket or residential car park) I do hope you know they are scams and to ignore them? :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
