Changing from prepay to credit meters?

The other half has prepay meters for both gas & electric with British Gas. With not getting the benefits of the online deals available with credit meters we looked into having the meters changed to credit meters.

I understand that with B/gas you don’t have to pay for the meters even if you change supplier shortly after having the credit meters installed. Contacted B/gas who can fit the meters but want £260 deposit as she doesn’t pass the credit check, which they said will be refunded after a year if no missed payments. If paying a deposit for the meters does that mean we are tied to B/Gas for a year without losing the deposit or would we still get the deposit back if we swapped supplier shortly after having the credit meters installed?
