I wouldn't get a black worktop if you are in a hard water area. I did and have regretted it as there is limescale all around the sink.

This has confirmed my suspicions despite salesmen saying it wouldn't be a problem. Problem is I now need to find another sparkly colour which will look good with cream units and wood floor.

Agree with your comments on Black quartz. Irrespective of the manufacturers, black granite looks much better than black quartrz.

Isn't quartz much more durable and hardwearing than granite? Granite is porous.

Does anyone know of a quartz brand that does a sparkly colour other than black or grey? I've chosen cream units, don't want black because of limescale/watermarks and scratching and grey doesn't go.

Compac do a colour called Titaneo - grey-brown with sparkly fleck. Silestone do the Platinum series in shades of grey with metal fleck. Cimstone do Elvas. Both Elvas and Titaneo work with cream.

If you go black, definitely granite. Black quartz just does not have the shine and depth as granite. And black granite is probably the least porous granite (Alan M can you confirm).

My kitchen has black granite, star galaxy, work tops.
It's not porous and limescale around taps cleans off very easily with a squirt of lemon juice or limescale remover.
The kitchen was installed ten years ago and the granite still looks new.

Thank you very much. I'll research these colours and try and locate a supplier to view them. Sending for samples is very expensive. I prefer quartz to granite and don't want high gloss.

What about the quality of Lunastone and Luxore quartz? They do a good range of sparkly colours although I can't find a showroom to see samples and they only send one or two.

We didn't like the Lunastone samples and plumped for Compac in the end. Personal preference over any concern on quality though.

What we were told is that with mirror quartz the mirror bits tend to pick up the colours of the units and reflect them.

That's a good thing I would have thought. I'm thinking of changing from cream to white for more flexibility on worktop colour and may even choose sparkly white or grey worktops.
