Can anybody recommend backup software for Windows XP?
Requirements:

1) App that saves the backed up files in a raw state so I dont need an app to recover or look at them.
2) Need to be able to backup any folder accessable to the system anywhere else, i.e. not just My Documents but any folder anywhere such as a network resource
3) I ony need to backup Data not programs (I already have that covered)
4) Easy to use

By way of background, Im currently using xcopy or xxcopy.

Are you backing up to another drive either USB or network attached?
Considered cloud based backups? I use dropbox for handy cloud based storage on my PC and CrashPlan to backup the server (which is also backed up to another drive).
Both have free options although the free CrashPlan does not include cloud storage but can be used to do backups to other locations. Its only $5 a month for unlimited online storage with versioning though. It uses Windows shadow copy so it even backs up open files etc.

Have a look at the above. Free. It makes a compressed file in zip format. It can make a self restoring file alternatively on its normal file (extension name is .bkz) you can just change the extension name to .zip and unzip normally.

Well almost, /D is only used with a date, not ideal when running a cmd file, /M will clear archive attribute (ideal for incremental backups, but for reasons unknown to me doesnt always clear the archive flag) - If were getting this technical its the subject of a new thread, I would suggest.

to do incremental you don't need a date or /m or worry about archive flags, just the flags I put, with maybe a /c on the end
