Lloyds TSB Classic Account

Hey,

Hopefully someone can help me, I currently hold a Basic Cash Bank Account with Lloyds TSB however they can't (Won't) upgrade it to the Basic Classic Account.

I've read on here that people have had success in upgrading there cash accounts to the classic account by closing the Cash Account and then opening the new classic account a few months later, Can anyone else confirm this ?

The only reason i want to do this is because i am fed up with my Debit card limitation (only can be used in Lloyds TSB Cash Machines), When i have a Advantage gold account with Natwest and a decent Full current account with RBS and Barclays, However i want to keep an account with Lloyds TSB because they are absolutely fantastic.

Many Thanks !

Pop into the branch and ask them to look at the system to see if you can upgrade it :)
Can I find out my credit score?
You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)

Can I suggest that popping into a branch and using internal bank system names may come across as telling someone how to do their job.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

    Not that fantastic then.:(

Do I understand that you already have at least 3 full service current accounts, one of which you pay nearly £13/month for?

Fair enough, I guess you like to cover all bases. Why not look at the Lloyds TSB Cashpoint account as the account in your armoury that lets you withdraw cash at Post Office counters?

But in answer to your question, unlike some other banks Lloyds don't allow both a Cashpoint and a full service account to be held *and* when applying for an "upgrade" the Basic "status" trumps "scoring". Somebody recently posted a "no borrowing" flag as the technical reason. When they did that to me once and I SAR'd my data, I found the application (to upgrade) had used false data not provided during the upgrade request.

If you particularly *want* a Lloyds TSB full service account I think you need to play a long game starting with closing your Cashpoint account. No idea how long it takes for the "damaging stigma" to be erased from Lloyds TSB records.

Personally I was happy to have a "loss making" account:), ability to make deposits in numerous ATMs, and when travelling in remote areas, access to cash at Post Office counters.

    What is CINS?

I've heard some people have success getting a classic account by opening a Silver account and then downgrading that after a couple of months.
  • It will depend on why OP has a cash account in the first place.
If it is because of bad things on their credit files then the plan will not work.
If it is because of low turnover then again it will not work.

He could open an Easy Saver in branch and ask for a cashpoint card on that - I believe this card will work in any link machine (of course you will have to transfer funds into the account before cashing).
  • You could always open a Co-operative Bank Cashminder account :D...done over the phone, takes about 15 minutes, you get a debit card which can be used at all cashpoints.

Personally, I think your loyalty is misplaced. If your bank doesn't provide the services you want...move banks!

Kirby - I don't know what to say about that post. You signed a confidentiality agreement.

Micheal - its not that the won't, the adviser can't upgrade if you don't qualify. If you open an easy saver, which is free you can withdraw cash at any cash point.

You may want to try to close the cash account, wait a few months and then open a classic account. Its not a guaranteed work around but it has been known to work.

Great you have had fab service from Lloyds.
