helpppp, have i been unfairly made redundant?

a few weeks ago my employer announced redundancies at the firm i worked for. they gave a date for announcing the at risk pools and said that anyone in a pool of one would be told to leave immediately. sadly i was the only person within the company who fell as being in a pool of one of one. During my notification of redundancy meeting my line manager told me that it was simply a case of me eing up against a senior member of staff with more qualifications and that it was a case of him or me! today I found out that he has been shifted from our sister company wher his work had dried up, to now being based at my company doing my job. is this right, especially s they said i was in a pool of one of one. surelyy if you are in a pool of one of one that means that your job is totally redundant. if I was up aginst the other guy surely there should have been a points scoring process to have taken place???? I have worked for the company for 15 years and have been doing my present job for the last 10. during that time they have had more rounds of redundacies than i care to remember and have been inconsistent as to what pools they have put me in. - basically sometimes it has been as my job and sometimes it has been in with other ppl on different departments. Also, i have today found out that they have been paying me considerably less than other people who have been doing exactly the same job as me and stated that it was because i didnt have the quals, however, my work was never an issue?! can they get away with treating me like this? I've requested a copy of my contract of employment and job description as i was never issues with a new one even tho my role changed 10 years ago. i was told that the documents are stored off site and that i'd have to wait for them....do you have any idea how long i should have to wait for this? surely its a basic request.

It's gone midnight and most people like their sleep. I doubt you're going to get many replies until daylight hours! Meaning working hours not 5a.m.!0

Good God - how many replies do you expect in the middle of the night! And I did reply - on the other forum that you posted to. For the benfit of evryone else, I told you that you needed to ask the employer for the selection method etc., but that if the other person was at risk this sounds like you have been bumped by someone with greater skills. Perefectly fair. But without asking the employer why you have been made redundant, how this person got the job and what slecetion process was used, nobody can tell you.0

What someone else is paid is nothing to do with you, you agreed your wage and contract and they agreed theirs. I was paid more then some of my work mates because at interview stage I asked for more and also agreed to more work ( or at least more responsibility) that is life I am afraid.
I don't agree with people being paid less because of their sex or disability but person to person is a different matter.. If your/ their qualifications mean more to the company then that does allow for extra pay in my mind.
As for being made redundant: truth of the matter is that if they want you gone then they will find a way but you can ask them why and how it was worked out etc.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.
