Short break somewhere like Rome

Hi,
I am 40 next April and my wife and I have decided to push the boat out and go away without the kids for probably 3 nights to mark the occasion.

I am thinking of Rome or Paris, but can't decide which.
Would certainly appreciate some advice to help me make up my mind and some ideas and suggestions as to the best way to make it work both financially and romantically.

Thanks!

Duncan

    Rome? Paris? No, no, no.

    Burnham on Sea, Somerset.

You won`t understand the locals and it is expensive. Perfect!

    Hi Duncan,

We did Paris and absolutely loved it. We booked through easy jet and paid about £350 bnb for the pair of us, for 4 nights in a Timotel. They are basic yes, but clean and central. We stopped in the one near moulin rouge, be warned tho- this area is a bit of red light district by night, quite noisy and loud, but couldn't hear a thing from inside our hotel room. But if you are not easily shocked it's actually a very nice base for the whole city.

We found that going off the main street you could eat quite cheaply, and had a gorgeous Italian, 2 beers each and main course and dessert for under €40. So don't believe when people say it's all expense there as you can spend as much or little as you want- as with anywhere else.

If you eat/ drink on the main strips it will be dear- ie coffee on champs elysees will be very expensive! If you want romantic quality time, walk everywhere together and take in all the beautiful sights it has to offer! You won't be disappointed I assure you! :)

Good luck in your search x

Thanks for your help Sweetpeas, I must say I am leaning to Paris after googling Rome (the prices of the Hotels in the centre are so scarily high!).

Also, like the idea of Eurotunnel straight to Paris, rather than flying and all that hassle.

So, just down to where to stay now, then. I'll google the one you mention and take a look at it.

    Thanks again.

Is Rome cheaper than Paris as regards eating and drinking out?

    +1

Perhaps save Rome for your 50th if you do end up in Paris ?
