JSA & Mortgage cover

I'm looking at taking VR. I was offered it 3 months ago but have stayed at work hoping something would come up but to date there is nothing other than a job 45 mins from home & i only work part time.
I'm looking to take the VR after working for the same company for 19 ys.
quick question, do you know if taking VR means I wouldn't be able to claim mortgage protection pay out? I've been covered for 12 months. As far as I know I can get JSA but won't know 100% until I can claim it?

  • only if after 6 months on cont based and you qualify for income based will you get help
income based is means tested taking into account savings and household income
  • "...claim mortgage protection pay out? I've been covered for 12 months"

so are you talking about your insurance or the governement support for mortgage interest?

if you were on JSA, you would be made to take the 45 min away job.
  • talking about my insurance that I took out over 12 months ago. not off the governement.

I can't work 45 mins from home I have a disabled child I have to pick up & drop off at school which is the reason i can't take the job i have been offered. But the company I work for is closing down the site I work at so I have no real choice but to take the VR package & hope for the best.
I have never claim a penny from the governement as I have worked since I was 15....

So you don't claim tax credits or child benefit or send your child to shool paid for by the pennies from government?

You can claim JSA and then you should be able to claim on your insurance policy but you will have to check the terms and conditions of the policy.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • I don't claim tax credits, I get child benefit but so do those with millions so that one can't count.... but as for sending my child to school, I have paid my way for everything in life & been a school governor, school helper & ran a twins group all for free so I have given more than most...

I've worked for the same company for more than 19 years so I don't know who these things work. I have made mortgage protection so if for a few months while I might be out of work I can claim so help is that too much to ask??
  • the issue is about what passports you to the insurance payout.

As I understand it, you can.
While you can't resign, you can take VR, as it's accepted by the government that it's positive for redundancies to be voluntery, and it doesn't make sense to make it hard for buisnesses to offer this.

For your mortgage protection insurance; why not phone them and ask? If they say you can claim, ask them to put that in writing to you.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
Read the sticky on the House Buying, Renting & Selling board.

  • also OP you could rent out your house and live somewhere cheaper off the profits from rental

In terms of your mortgage protection insurance it really depends on what the terms and conditions of your particular policy is so no one on here will be able to give you a definitive answer. You need to read through the paperwork you have or call the company.
