Pierre et Vacances holiday villages

We're thinking of a holiday in France - probably Aquitaine region - between Bordeaux/ Biarritz in August. We have two children aged 5 and 2 (will be 6 and 3 by then).

Does anyone have any views on the Pierre & Vancances holiday villages? Has anyone stayed at the Moliets village?
Or do you know of any web-sites with reviews of these villages?

What's the accommodation really like? What are the facilities like? Any tips on these types of accommodation. Is it worth paying to be in one of these villages, or would it be better to book an apartment on a site with less facilities, but cheaper.

(The children like the beach and a pool. We like sight-seeing, eating out. We've never stayed at a holiday village before!)

  • I've never been to Moliets, but have been to Port Bourgenay 3 times. We loved it when the children were younger and didn't mind all sleeping together.
Think of it as a middle class Butlins with well to do french golfers! The apartments are about the same size as a mobile home, quite small( but you get a dishwasher!). Pools, facilities and landscaping are superb. You used to be able to get some good deals if you went out of season. They do a great little train that takes you to and from the beach. It has been about 7 years since we have been, but we had some brilliant holidays and I used to go on at all my friends to try them - very French atmosphere.

Booking direct on Pierre et Vacances website should be cheaper than going through an agent.
  • Thanks for this information - think we'll give it a try.

I've always liked the look of these holiday villages, but never been to one yet. They have to be a better standard than Butlins but not as expensive as Centerparcs.

Good point! We went to a French Center Parcs last year using Clubcard Deals through French Life. Brochure price is more than Center Parcs website, but then you do get 4x value for your vouchers. We put very little money in to top up and it was a good way of using the vouchers. We'd do it again.

There is a Normandy Center Parcs too. But we went to the one south of Paris (about 100 miles south).
