isn't that what child benefit/child tax credits are for?
Also I was under the impression parents sometimes had to shell out for things out of their own pocket to get things their kids need?0 -

Thank you to all the positive replies out there, when he finished his last gcse he went straight to connexions for help doing his C.V and trawled the shops looking for work but as he'd just turned 16 he had not received hi N.I card,so most said sorry,he managed to get 3 interviews but didnt hear again,i fully appreciate its coming up to christmas now and there will be a lot more jobs out there which he'll be looking to fill.
As for the ones slating the course he is doing why is he wrong in wanting to follow his heart, its not just about kicking a ball around and its certainly nothing to do with becoming a footballer as he knows his limits buts has always wanted to work in the football industry.
I'd much rather him do this than getiing into a rut and signing his name once a fortnight.
Dont worry he cant sign on till hes 18 and the tax credits are much more than the £50 jsa that estranged 16 year olds get which is why so few leave school at 16 today, goverment bribery.
I was in the 6th form when all this sport science was rolled out and I can honestly say that at our 20 year 6th form reunion no one had made a living at it, one or two did Saturday jobs while at college and that was it, two years of chasing balls for nothing apart from dodging getting a job or real qualifications.
There are so many opertunities today for our kids, they really do have the world at their feet, even none academic kids can choose from a wealth of subjects that can springboard them into a career, my sons on an engineering course and even though he is just 15 hes making money out of the skills he has learned.0 -
The 16 to 18 gap will end as the school age is reported to be raised to 18 from 2013. Most employers can't take 16 year olds on due to insurance limitations. My son even went for a toilet cleaning job at 16 a few years ago and was refused "for insurance purposes" due to age restrictions.
As for the course your son is doing, if it is what he wants to do, then good luck to him

My son has just started the last year of compulsory education for his age group, he is in the last year that can leave work school at 16 and he will have at least another 1/2 years of his apprentiship to complete or 2/3 years for his degree (maybe more but no one gets funding for an masters etc. before they even enter uni) and hes learning transeferable skills, he works hard and has no problem with age restrictions.
My son made £500 last week Wedensday till Sunday and thats not an unsual week for when hes not at school/college, hes now restocking for this weekend but he dosnt do as much selling in the winter after October but he manfactures parts/ spares etc. in this down time, hes a very hard worker and we are very, very proud of him.0
