Brand new Valiant Ecotec Pro 28 Boiler banging

Just had new complete c/heating hot water system fitted - all brand new direct from mains by Gas safe engineer

Middle of last night - horrendous knocking/banging noise - didnt even get up to check it out - too scary. Can only think it was the boiler...

Never used central heating yet - only using hot water at moment.

What do folks think please???? Thanks in advance

I think that if you think its the boiler then its a 'phone call to the installer which goes along the lines of "Get your a..e back here pronto." You might like to say "please", of course.

Thanks. Engineer should be ok, been using same guy for many years. I cant be here tomorrow as I have to go to work, and have to have friend let engineer in. Hopefully I can find out what hes done.

Also, any idea why boiler would fire up, when I've only been running cold water? i.e upstairs bathroom sink...Or do these new boilers fire up intermittently by themselves regardless please? Thanks
  • Did he powerflush the system? Could be dirt in the heat exchanger.
  • DId this happen after heating on for a while ???
Could simply be flow and return crossed and a thermostatic valve knocking can sound very loud

Yes, if you have 'warmstart' enabled...

  • I didn't read the post fully - tired - forget dirt then if it's new system. Possibly still air in the system. If the automatic air vent has been left open it should find it's way out.

Is there a 'C' showing on the display? If not the warm start function is not on.

If there is turn the HW stat all the way to off, hold for a second then set back to 55C.

There should be no reason to have this function turned on wasting gas.

The only other thing that will possibly operate at night is the boiler spinning the pump to stop it sticking.

But then, you don't 100% know it was the boiler as you didn't get up to have a look.
