Pay them? About 5% a year on all deposits lost through inflation. How much do they need to state a few basic details? Many people pay them far more through extortionate interest charges in a near zero interest environment, (albeit mainly through their own mismanagement and inability to delay gratification).

Ok, so you don't actually hand over any money.

You don't like the service offered.

There are numerous competitors (one that pays 5% interest, one that pays £5 a month, one that pays 3% interest - others that may have other benefits).

What do you think your choices are?

Yes, they're all obliged to act in accordance with the instructions given to them by their customers. You went to a local branch, handed over £1000 in cash and cheques and asked them to credit the proceeds to your account, and that's what they did. Had you asked them to credit £300 in cash and £700 in cheques in separate transactions they'd have done that too.

I'm afraid putting a blank on my on line statement, or statements arranged so bank staff themselves can't understand them, is completely unacceptable however you spin it!

The banks which offer perks do it for a reason, they need to to make up for poor customer service, Internet only service, or poor coverage so you wouldn't be able to visit a branch at all to sort things out.

This bank is my nearest. However I would change if the other banks did things any better, the message I'm getting on here is that they don't, and no wonder if most of you seem to think this sort of service is satisfactory!

Well there we are then - that's something they're providing for the money you apparently pay them. A local branch staffed with real people.
