My laptop has a front jack plug socket but I don't like using it as I am scared it will press against me and break. So I wondered if there were any connectors to allow me to use my USB socket on the side.
I have Googled but am not good at it....

I find jack plugs by far the simplest/most robust means of using an audio headset with a laptop. Best thing for you to do would be to make that work for you -use your laptop on a desk etc etc.
Not come acrosss any USB to jack connectors, simply buying a USB headset would be an alternate option but brace yourself for a great deal more 'fiddling' on the software side making sure your programs are all looking for the correct audio input/output source and some faff with drivers from time to time...0 -

Yep I think it looking that I may have to think deep about this. I was thinking of making some form of tray, on my lap, that had built in safeguards against squashing the jack plug socket.

As I have said on the other two threads it is not me being stupid as there must be a gremlin in the MSE forum. So I assume you will regret the sarcastic link to Alzheimer's as it is a condition from which my Mother suffered, for many years, and really is not something to joke about - well to me it isn't.
So cut me some slack and I will report to the Mods hoping they can sort out.....................0
