This is so petty, but I hate it so I have to rant.

Options
At work our new personnel manager insists we use trays when we eat in the canteen.

I'm 24. The last time I used a tray was when I was in primary school !!!!!!.

It's so ridiculous, and I don't even get paid for my break so I'm like...why the hell should I have to.

</rant>

Oh, and another rant. I work on customer services in a large supermarket chain. Our compliance manager has stopped us from following the policy, and is making his own up as he goes. Our store is no longer allowed to follow the DTD policy, for ANYONE, even when the label clearly states a price or an offer, the managers are refusing to follow the policy and instead only offer the customer a refund.

What can we do? All the staff in my department are so sooooo sick of it, it's embarrassing for both us and the customer. And our store manager/personnel/compliance all know about it, and are in agreement that we're not allowed to follow the policy. WTFWTF.

  • No advice, just wanted to sympathise. I've been that person facing the customer having them ranting at you over somethng you have no control over while the manager is well away out of the picture with no idea of the problems their new 'policy' is causing. Maybe they should make sure items are priced correctly in the 1st place then they wouldn't have to worry about their ginormous profit being eaten into by a few quid they've had to refund someone. Lets face it, I doubt very many people actually check the price of items as they go through the till or check their receipt to make sure they haven't been overcharged so they'll be getting away with all of those. Or maybe they should swap places with you and deal with the customers themselves for one day.

    Peed off on your behalf.

    .

Have you consdiered eating somewhere else? Then you can do as you like. And maybe some people are just really messy and some of your colleagues would prefer to clean trays, which can go in a machine, rather than have to mop down tables that are full of other people's muck constantly. And why shouldn't they?

And very few people get paid lunch breaks.

You post a lot of rants about your employers and you seem to hate every manager - why don't you just get another job?

it's the franchisees of the canteen who insist on the trays for reasons sarel mentions, not the place of employment - they get so busy with typically one person serving that sside that it's hard to keep up with cleaning down the tables between every staff lunch hence the trays.

seriously don't sweat the small stuff it;s not worth the time of day!

I dont hate "every manager" as you state. I quite like MOST of them, but the ones who I do have a problem with are the ones who don't do their job properly and who also happen to have the most power in the store (even though they don't abide by the company's own policies).

And there's not really anywhere else to eat lunch...unless I sit on the floor outside? They removed the benches from outside the building, I don't drive, and I don't live nearby.

Use the trays - it is a petty thing to complain about. There is nothing to stop you from taking your plates of food off the tray and eating your meal and then you put the empty plates back on the tray and I presume there are racks where you can put the tray with the dirty crocks?

As for whinging about management - either start looking for another job or apply for a managerial post yourself?

Well you certainly appear to be here a lot complaining about them. Apparently without the ability to avoid a lot of !!!!!!-ing. So again - why not leave? Or, as another poster suggested, get a management job.

thkweem and thkween and make yourselth thick?

I don't know, refer them to the dept manager when they don't accept the refund? Eat off the trays?

Sometimes you have to defer to management so just get on with it...they are almost as petty about some things than some staff are.

Hang on a minute.....WHO MOVED MY CHEESE?

I could never carry a plate of food, a drink, cutlery, napkins etc. without a tray when I worked in a supermarket.

The other thing you could do with regards going against policy re the DTD is to whistle blow it. Anonymously report the manager to his superiors, head office, and explain that you are being asked to go against tesco policy.

Also, to make your life easier, with some glitches if they are a HO fault, then call them and get a reference number and then you can use some internal system to get the DTD amount charged to HO, rather than the store, so keeping manager happy.

I found this out whilst waiting for my DTD the other day, as the guy rang HO for a reference and explained to his manager that he would finish processing it the next day, which was a Monday, when things were open.

I am guessing that the reason they have done this is that it affects the bonus they receive, but their are better ways to sort the issue IMO.
