Paying foreign currency cheque into an account...

Just reposting this from Savings & Investment board - might be more suitable for response here...

My nan from Australia died last year, and the executor has sent me and my two sons (3 & 5yo) a cheque for AUS$3000, and 2 x AUS$2000 respectively. What is the mosy economical way of getting this into an account/changed up? It is a regular cheque (from Westfalia bank if I remember, its sat on the side at home) and is paid out from the 'Joan Sxxxx Estate Fund" Also, does anyone know if there are any 'import' tax implications on the monies?

Thanks for any help

Simon
