My mate has a advent 7109a laptop Celeron M420.
Only prob is when he connects the modem cable to the ADSL splitter or just a normal splitter the phone line goes dead and no connection on the laptop.
Appreciate any suggestions!
Joe.

is he trying to use dial-up, with a broadband connection, or is there a usb modem in the equation? Are you using the cable that came with the PC or broadband modem?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

He is trying to use dial up as he hasn't got broadband yet. Using everthing in his brand new laptop as regards to hardware.
Basically so he can have broadband from his lap with wi-fi
This is the modem: SmartLink 56K notebook modem0 -
Is he def using the modem cable that came with the PC, with no extension cables? The adsl splitter isn't need until he goes live.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

If you're trying to use dial-up but also have ADSL installed don't forget you need an ADSL filter on the line. Not sure if this is what you refer to as a splitter.
As albertross says, need more info as to what you're trying to do.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
