Hi im wondering if anybody can help? i bought a dell laptop last year at the end of july and yesterday it died
it will not charge wen a charger is put in, will not turn on -it wont do anything at all. At first i thought it was the charger and took it to maplin to buy a new dell charger and the guy tried it before i bought it but it wouldnt work, he tried a universal charger and that didnt work and told me every time he put a charger in it was being tripped out and it was a problem with the laptop not the charger. i rang dell today and was told i ws out of warrenty by 37 days so there was nothing they could do. is this correct? surely a £500 computer shuld last more then 13 months?also im not very good with computers but i had pictures, videos etc on comp is there any way i can get them off since it wont do anything? xx

Where did you buy the laptop? Was it Dell direct or a shop?
Essentially, yes, you'd expect a laptop to last more than 13 months. However, as the fault developed after six months, you will need an independent review (at your own cost) to prove that the fault was inherent. If this review finds in your favour, the retailer must refund you (they can deduct money in respect of the 13 months' use you've already had), replace or repair your laptop. If they don't find in your favour, then you don't have any redress I'm afraid.
You need to take this up with the retailer, not Dell (although Dell might well be the retailer too) and remind them that this is in accordance with the SOGA and nothing to do with the warranty.
Are you prepared to pay for an independent review? This is your only course of action, TBH."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
It depends what the fault is - a common fault is that the charging socket on the laptop breaks. The laptop's battery then doesn't charge, and it appears "dead".
*IF* this is the case (difficult to diagnose over the internet...) then all your data is safe.
This sort of fault often happens through misuse, so don't be surprised if Dell tell you to go away.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
i bought it from littlewoods, shall i ring them up and say im not happy it has only lasted 13 months, or go through with an independant review then go back to littlewoods? how much am i looking at paying for a review? can i get my pictures etc off before getting a review or could this cause problems when fixing it? most things i have backed up just not a lot of the childrens pictures over the past 6 weeks and im really gutted about that. i dont know whats best?0
