Church flowers

Ok for those of you who had a church wedding did you have the members of the church do your flowers? the price quoted for our church included flowers, the vicar said if we didnt want them to take £50 off the price quoted.my question is did u pick which flowers you wanted or was it a case of just telling them your colour scheme and leaving it to them? also did you take the flwoers with you? reason i ask is because we marry on a friday and if ive paid for them i dont want another bride to get them free on the sat,i thought about asking if we could take them with us and use them at the venue.do you think this is possible?

Mine many years ago, were from the harvest supper service, which happened on the day before, we were asked if we would like to use them and asked for £20 donation, which we happily paid.

They did say if we didn't want them they would remove them and we could have our own, (not very mse) but they were beautiful and the ladies spent many hours and ££ on them, ok we couldn't pick the colours, but then we didn't need to, the church was full of them everywhere you looked.

  • my mum is doing mine, we have a big arch which we are having one on the front on the top of the arch and two either side inside the arch, then we are having pew bows with flowers on, then mums made afew to scatter around the church. I dont know what you want, but £50 seems resonable, but then again you dont know what they will be like. x

Usually if the church ladies do the flowers then its assumed that you will leave them at the church following the ceremony.

It is best to meet with the vicar or the chuch ladies to discuss because it really does vary from church to church...I have known brides who opted for the church flowers and had no say in the colour scheme or style and others who have been able to have a lot of input into what is done....

personally we didnt opt for the church ladies....my sister who is a florist did them all but we did leave the altar flowers for the church...it also meant that we could take some of the many flowers we had in the church away also to use for decoration at the reception venue...

If I were you I would make an appointment to see the ladies to see if what they offer is to your requirement...church ladies are sometimes a lot cheaper than florists so that may work in their favour and yours if thay let you have a say in how the church is decorated.....

The lady who does the flowers at our church every week also did our flowers. She was so kind and couldn't do enough for us. We paid well below the odds for the flowers we ended up with and we were so delighted with them.

That's a bit odd as we had to sort our flowers with the church flower lady directly. What are they including for your £50? I'd be surprised if that included more than a pedestal as they tend to cost in the £50-£75 range for one.

Would imagine this totally depends on the arrangement with the people who do the flowers! Why don't you call them and ask? The lady who did ours was so kind and we looked at loads of pictures and ideas before settling on our theme of off-white roses and freesias with green foliage and she did an amazing job - and far, far more than we had paid for.

Again, I would speak to your flower arranger, because sometimes if your flowers are used for another wedding you will split the cost with the other wedding (this is what happened with ours). It also depends on what the flowers are. If they are pew ends for instance you would probably be able to take them. If they're pedestals you almost certainly wouldn't!

Thank you for the replies we will have a chat with the vicar when we go to the next service and get him to put us in touch with the flower ladies.not really sure what the £50 includes he just said thats what they charge.be nice if we could take some with us as were having a memory table so would go nice on there im guessing
  • Our flowers at the church are £60 and are being done by the lady who does all the church flowers. We didn't get to pick the flowers just gave her the colour scheme.

The church have said that we can take the flowers if we really wanted but they ask that it be considered them to be left.

We are leaving ours for the sunday service as the church have been so helpful in other areas that we felt it would be nice to do.

At a wedding we went to the bride (my firend) asked some of her friends at the end of the service to take the flowers to the venue as she then had then as her table centre pieces.

Another wedding did the same but she had a set person take them from the church to the venue (not a member of the wedding party).
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

If there is a wedding the next day, they definitely won't get the flowers for free. They will either be charged the same rate as you are, which will be much needed funds for the church, or you will be asked to split the cost with them. Churches seem to operate different policies on whether or not you can remove flowers. Ours has a strict rule that flowers must not be removed from the church, regardless of wether we paid the church ladies to do them or brought in flowers from our own privately hired florist. It is understandable but a bit annoying as it would be nice to get more use out of the flowers. Because of this, I think we will just concentrate on decorating the reception venue and not worry about flowers at the church.

We decided against flowers in the church in the end as the prices started at £170 for church ladies! and you have to leave them. As it happens we were married just after Easter and the church still had a nice pedestal of flowers up.
