old network drive causing problems

Afternoon folks

It is getting ever more frustrating now....

I used to have a second computer which I had mapped the file storage HD to my laptop as network drive "Y".

A few things recently (itunes & acrobat) recently havent been able to update as for some reason it has looked for the Y drive... a bit of a pain but not the end of the world.

Today I downloaded a new program (windows RAW thumbnail viewer) which I have never used or installed before and when trying to install it aborts giving the reason that it is unable to find the 'Y' drive.

The old PC that the Y drive was on has gone but I dont see why it is signifcant at all given all it held was mp3s and photos.

How can I remove any history of the Y drive network drive so that I can install this software (and preferably also itunes etc)

make sure you don't have y:\ mapped in explorer, tools, disconnect network drive, then

either search for y:\ with regscanner

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/regscanner.html

    and replace it with c:\

or start, run, subst y: c:\
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

excellent, worked like a dream... now if I could only work out why my laptop keeps stalling it would be perfect :)
