Almost certainly, the cash machine was privately run (like some of the LINK ones you get around here).
Yes, I used one with "Bank of America" pasted all over it once and got charged. Must be the name of a private franchise over in the states or something.

Nationwide will not levy a fee. Other banks/bs's will charge a fee according to their published fee scale.

Neither have any control over fees levied by the cash machine operator, and in most countries free cash withdrawals are not the norm for anyone.

Following on from the really useful advice on reclaiming current a/c charges, has anyone applied this to the outrageous charges for atm withdrawals abroad. I have just returned from a long period of foreign travel in many countries and my bank whom i would recommend in every other way has made some outrageous charges for each ATM withdrawal. It varies hugely for each country but in india this was as high as 4.80 per withdrawal. If the criteria applied to current a/c charges is 'reasonable admin cost' can the same be applied to ATM costs. I would love to be able to reclaim on the same basis of unreasonableness.

    Any precedents here?
