Probs using generic ink in Lexmark printer

Hi,

OK, so I was daft enough to buy a Lexmark Impact S305 Printer that uses the most expensive replacement ink cartridges in the world.:o

Anyway, I started to get an error message warning of low black ink, and it would not let me print. I bought some generic black ink, and re-filled the cartridge by peeling back the label and injecting into the hole there. I then stuck back the label, and hey presto, now able to print. I was still getting the low ink error message, but was able to just close the error message and continue to print.

Fast forward a month or two and I suddenly get an error message saying black ink empty and it would not let me print at all. I have tried re-filling the cartridge, but no luck.

Anyone have any idea how (if?) I can by-pass this at all?

I did a little bit of research online, and it appeared to be the general case that you could top up as I did, as long as you could live with the constant low ink error messages, however now I have a black ink empty message, I am stuck.

Any help gratefully received!

Olias

    Possibly the cartridge is chipped.

I can't help with refilling the one you have but my printer is fussy and wont take the expensive off-brand refills except the ASDA own make, which is odd because it's really cheap, half the price of the Sainsburys and the Tescos own, and neither of them would run in it. Might be a thought, might not - if you want one last attempt before buying the expensive branded one.

didn't lexmark issue a firmware update that blocked compatible cartridges recently?
Hi, until my printer has just refused to re-instal.LEXMARK.I have used compatibles for years with no bother till now. BUT, like you ,my colour always said low, showed empty, even on new one, I assumed it was detector damaged in printer as black shows full, just lived with it.They are expensive though, mine were £29.99 each.so am now looking for something with less expensive ink.Lex have 2 cartriges, but I notice HP have several. Hope you sort it.

After the disposable stapler we now appear to have the disposable single-use printer! Has the World gone mad?

just about - i used to have a 3000 series and the manual refill was no problem. i never tried the colour one again after the first disastrous attempt though. since going to a 4650 i can maybe get another 30 pages with a full manual refill and then it stops for ever :(

its about time the eu to have a look at this racket. how it fits into the whole green reusable thing they want to promote is a mystery.

new ink cartridge or a new printer with an ink cartridge thrown in for the same price? madness.
