How can I remove black slime from inside washing machine?

I have a problem with black slime developing inside the washing machine door on the rubber at the bottom. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Also how can I remove it permanently and prevent it from coming back again?

Thank you.

The black slime is caused by damp. It should wipe off but a cloth soaked in a weak solution of bleach should kill it off. To stop it forming again leave the door of the washing machine open when it's not in use and ensure you wipe any moisture off the seal.

I used dettox bleach that comes in a bright green spray bottle. It didnt get rid of every trace but looks much better

I also cleaned inside the compartment that takes powder/concentrate. Removed it as it slide out and cleaned in a bowl with a toothbrush and some bleach. Also sprayed inside the machine machine where draw goes to clean mould in there
  • to remove it just wipe it off with hot water and a detergent, but you may be left with a bit of staining.

To stop it occuring again, when you remove your washing from the machine, wipe the area with a sponge so no water sits there in the rim, and leave the door open for half an hour so that the machine dries out.

As above - leave the door ajar.

It's not just damp. It's undissolved soap scum formed by washing at too low a temperature, eg 30C.
Put a cup of white vinegar in the dispenser and do a full hot wash (60-90C) cycle. Repeat once a month (or do more hot washes).

We have this as well and use the detox mold and mildrew remover (in a green bottle) on it monthly to clean it. I always wipe away the water that collects there after a wash and leave the door open till all properly dry as well, this way it doesn't get any worse.
  • I've been doing a service wash (90 deg's) once a month with washing powder that contains bleach (Asda smart price stuff) and seems to be helping my machine!

I also leave the door ajar and use vinegar when washing clothes etc etc.
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!
