Splashback behind cooker - dimensions

Hello,
I'm buying a new cooker and want a stainless steel splashback on the wall behind it as I hate trying to scrub stains out of grout.
Do people normally get the same width for the splash back as the hob, or should I go wider? I figured another 10cm on each side would be practical, but not sure if it would look a bit odd?

I would go wider if I were you. A bubbling pan can splash a good distance. Stone splashbacks are often much wider. Here are some example kitchens most with splashbacks:

Generally the splashback is a bit wider than the hob although in many of those example there is a range cooker which is very wide anyway.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0
