O2 3g Dongle problem

Hello,
Moved into a new place and bought an o2 dongle cheap that I found on Argos ebay outlet. Everything is fine (well it is slow) apart from one thing that is really irritating me. When it is connected every 1-2 seconds the application you use to connect to the network will try and update the data usage. I can hear it accessing the hard drive, and the button refreshes.
It's not a major problem, but I have a feeling it's using up half my allowance on checking my network usage!
Any ideas?

Which application?
I have exactly the same situation but use the Mac application (dont know if it is the same as the Windows one or not). Certainly with it, it is monitoring the traffic locally and so doesn't impact your usage itself at all but is also why it says the statistics are only for guidance and not to be taken as gospel (cannot remember the exact wording)0 -

Whatever came with the ZTE MF100, not sure just the bog standard O2 application.
As I said it's not a major deal, but just very annoying!Per Mare Per Terram0
