computer not booting up.

Sorry, not a techie, but so far amazingly have been able to fix problems with advice from this forum.
As I close computer it shows..auto detect entering pwr save (not sure if that's right?) When I try to start takes me to windows error recovery..so run thro' this , then tells me unable to fix, no root cause, possible unspecified changes to system; if I then go from there to start windows normally it will boot up.
I have to start up via windows repair basically even tho' it doesn't fix anything.
Running vista;if I try to start normally or bypass repair, sounds healthy for a couple of seconds and then goes totally blank with no sound.Just a long shot someone will have an idea..as always ,very grateful for easy to follow help. Thanks.

  • It sounds like a driver problem or a registry problem.
If you can't get Windows to boot in normal mode, try hitting F8 when you first see the Windows boot screen and try to run Windows in Safe mode.

If this does not work, then you are going to have to try and boot with either a recovery disk or your original installation Windows CD.

Did you make a backup of your system? Or do you have a backup of your critical files?

If you start to use the recovery or installation approach, it is very possible to loose your "my document" files.
  • sfc check fine..wont run in windows safe. Will just back up anyway and may have to seek outside help on this one. Thanks for ideas :)

simple check - unplug all USB connections and try to boot
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

On my vista pc I can press esc on bootup and it gives options to repair various things. Is yours the same?

    Hi phoebe

Could be many things from hardware to software - but it may be that your MBR is corrupted, insert your installation disk and boot from that, when it come to the screen to select your language click next, then click repair your computer after this click your installation and hit next - then click command prompt - while in there run these two commands:
    bootrec.exe /fixmbr
    bootrec.exe /fixboot

Remove the vista disk and restart - let me know who you get on :)

    Cheers
