Congratulations :) Lovely pics, you look so happy. Those cupcakes look wonderful!! So glad to hear you had such a lovely day...a colleague has been considering going to Gretna but was being put off by 'conveyor belt' stories she'd heard (from people who'd not actually been there!!) Will get her to look at this thread now

    Thank you! :)
The cupcakes were made by my ward sister, they tasted even better than they looked! If you can believe that!! They were amazing!!
We got married at 4pm, so we were the last wedding of the day at the Blacksmiths shop. There was 1 other wedding on our day at the reception hotel, but I can honestly say, I never saw the other bride!
It was all a little surreal outside of the shop having the pics taken, this may sound tacky to some people, but the Chinese tourists, there were maybe a dozen tourists in total, were amazing too! it was a huge deal to them to have been able to watch our wedding pics being taken.... and I can say, I did feel like a celebrity as they watched & took some pics!! Not for everyone I know, but it was certainly something different for us & our guests!
If I can be any help to your friend, give me a shout! x

  • I echo that you look lovely and many congratulations.

I'm also getting married in the Gretna area in January 2013. We booked with the Gretna Wedding Bureau and are at Comlongon castle. We got, i think, a great deal and I can't wait.
Whilst researching the area we stopped off at Gretna Green and saw a fair few weddings whilst having a brew in the cafe there. The tourists do love it and snap away with their cameras but it was lovely to see and didn't come across as intrusive. As long as anyone planning on getting married there knows that there will be an audience (unless it's at 9am on a rainy October morning) then it can be lovely. Gretna is so geared up to weddings that they have to do it well otherwise the area would die.
I did a fair bit of research before picking our venue so if anyone else wants any advice just ask.
