IE9 not saving my browsing history - anyone know why?

I recently got a new pc with windows 7 and IE9. I have just realised that IE9 is not saving my web browsing history. If I look at history all I get is the history of files I have looked up on my PC internally, not sites I have browsed on the web.
The recommended fix seems to be to go to Internet Options/Content/Settings and check Auto Complete. I have been there and it is already checked. I do not have In Private browsing set on.
Completely mystified on this one. Can anyone help? (I am running IE 9.02)

In IE8 and I think in IE9 in internet options general tab, there is a box, if ticked, to clear history on exit - you can get into internet options via the control panel if you haven't turned on the menu tab in IE90

You have't got in-private browsing enabled have you?0

Clear History on exit is not checked and in-Private browsing is not enabled. Neither has ever been activated as far as I know, and not by me, but I checked anyway in case they had been set on by default and the answer is no, they are not set on.
Doing some research around the web, it seems like it is a bug in IE9 which has appeared relatively recently and may relate to how many entries you are accumulating in History. What is unclear is how to fix it, assuming this is what is happening.
Anyone got IE9 and care to see if they have their Browsing History saved, then maybe we can compare settings?0 -
You may find more focused help on the following forum which deals with Windows 7 issues - I believe that Microsoft also access the site so you might get more uoto date info.

You can always reset IE by going to Internet Options, Advanced, Reset, Delete personal settings, then click reset. You won't lose any favourites but you will need to add a search provider etc etc.0

Yup, reset IE9 and that didn't work either. Still the same problem.......:(
This problem is only my desktop. I also have a netbook (Samsung) running Windows 7 starter, and IE9 (9.02) and the browsing history is saved just fine.
I wonder if it is related to the fact that I am running Win7 Professional (64 bit) on the desktop. Anyone technical care to speculate?0 -
I'm running W7 Pro on most of my machines and they all save the history so not sure what is different about your machine. I recently had to look at a W7 computer where the users couldn't log into Facebook and I did everythng in the book to try and sort it but without success. In the end I installed Google Chrome and the problem was solved. I think that maybe on some W7 machines IE problems are caused by the fact that it's built into the operating system. Maybe the answer is to reinstall W7 but is it worth it?0

I did find this recengt exchange on the Microsoft answers website and wonder if it is related
"I have been using IE9 and the browsing history functionality stops working periodically. It just stops recording the history of sites visited. I "fixed" this once by clearing the entire browsing history but I rather not too do this whenver the software bug appears. Anyone else experiencing this problem? I only record 15 days of browsing history and my cache size is 250MB. I never saw this problem with IE8."
"I'm having the same problem. When it first happened, I thought it was because it was time to delete my browsing history because it was full since I go to a lot of websites since in one day. However, IE8 never gave me this problem this perodically. After keeping a close eye on it during the second and third time, I noticed that the browsing history only works up to 5 days. On the sixth day, it may work at first, but after going to other sites, it stopped and I have to clearing my entire browsing history."
It's a particular problem for me because I do a lot of online research and visit a lot of websites sometimes in one day.0 -
While looking for a solution I came across this -
"This (no browser history in IE9) recurred again. Finally I found out that a software package I had installed (WinZip System Utilities Suite) removes all of the history automatically. However, there is a checkmark buried within it that prevents that."
Will check it out to see if it applies to mine. Doubt it but worth a try.0
