Hi,
just acquired a 15 Gb drive that I want to install as a slave drive.
Model is Quantum Fireball LC 15 0AS
All it says on the label re pin settings is
CS Cable Select
DS Master
PK Park.
It only shows the jumper position for Cable Select position - the other two are left blank.
What is cable select about???
Having hunted for info it would appear that my HD converts to 'Slave' by having NO connector, as below? Can anyone confirm, please.

Cable select is short for "lets screw up your HDD interface and crash your computer"
You are correct though, to make it a slave just pull the jumper out and keep it somewhere safe
You can use that lone pin to keep it safe by storing it at a 90 degree angle, as long as it doesn't go on any other pin at the same time.Windows is the path to the darkside...Windows leads to Blue Screen. Blue Screen leads to downtime. Downtime leads to suffering...I sense much Windows in you.0 -

Just to make it clear, the above pic is NOT my HD. I showed that to explain what I THOUGHT I should do.
Like I said, it doesn't make a mention of slave on my hD - just Park Cable & Master.
If I use Cable select - does that mean 'Let the cable select the HD operation (Slave or Master) by it's position down the cable, then?"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
Try this: http://service.maxtor.com/rightnow/images/maxtor_quantum%20jumpers.htm
Edit:
Sorry, just realised you are using this. Cable select is not advised, it can cause a lot of problems, especially on older drives like Quantums but may work for you.
Just remove the jumper, plug it in, switch it on and try it, you can't damage the drive doing that, the worst thing that will happen is the BIOS will complain.Windows is the path to the darkside...Windows leads to Blue Screen.
