Couldn't find anything on my paperwork or there site and have forgotten to email flight centre who I booked with.

  • Its normally at least 2 hours for an International flight.
  • Did it used to be 3, never quite sure anymore..
I always turn up with time to spare but within reason as nothing worse than waiting for checkin to open

No there are many worse things than "waiting for checkin to open" such as getting there late and rushing through security and running to the gate.

Personally, I like getting there with plenty of time to spare and then relax in the bar while everyone else is getting stressed. For international flights I always assume 3 hours.
  • i would check in online 24 hours before the flight and then check on their website for their check in times. i would aim to be there 3 hours before if they are open to avoid chaos queues and to allow enough time to get through security. then i sit back in an airport lounge drinking all their free lager
  • Cool, so 3 hours it is

    Thanks
Ps. Free lager? Is the lounge free to enter

Two hours is likely to be more than enough, apart from flights to the USA (where extra security checks are required). However, if you plan to arrive two hours before take-off and something goes wrong on the way, you might be in trouble.

MAN website says 3 hours for LH (http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/manweb.nsf/Content/Departing) although if you don't have lounge access I always think that's to allow them more time to prise money out of you in shops.

Depends when Etihad desks open anyway, I see their OLCI is from T-24 to T-2 so perhaps the desks don't actually open until T-2.

The "recommended" check in times tend to be when the desks open - usually 2-3 hours before, when you'll probably be stuck in a long queue with people who've got there even earlier waiting for the desk to open!

The T&C's/booking details will have the minimum check in time somewhere - usually 45 minutes or so, but best to allow a bit longer to get through security etc. I usually allow 60-90 mins, never had a problem.
