If you live anywhere near a Metro Bank you can open an account immediately - took me around 40 minutes (with the correct paperwork) and they have a machine that instantly prints off your debit card. Charges for foreign withdrawals are excellent and far better than getting currency from the likes of the Post Office, etc.

Mentioned them in #3, but perhaps not prominently enough.

Metro are the the best. Both their debit and credit cards top the charts at the moment.

Stick with the Globe if you want to avoid any nasty shocks. The standard £ card has a sting in it's tail.

I have been comparing the two TravelEx cards and i can't see whats wrong with the non-Globe version. Could you elaborate a bit on what the differences are?

    Thanks

The exchange rate offered is much worse on the non-globe version

Yes, 6.26% worse. Stay away from it for overseas use.

Stick with my suggestion if you have the correct card to pay for it. It been well proven here. Save yourself a headache.
