Alternative to Windows Media Center

Hi guys,
My Dad and 2 brothers bothe got new laptops with Windows media center on them and i know you can only buy this OS as a pre-installed system. So as i am a little green eyed i was wondering if anyone knows an alternative to this. With or without remote. Freeware or to buys. Preference is freeware at the moe. when i bought my Dell 2 years ago it ahad a sudo-media centre thing on it but i uninstalled it. because it annoyed me. the main things i like are the interface with your music, pics etc. not bothered about the EPG or TV recording. So any help greatfully appreciated. Or if you wanna ask any Q's

A Linux distribution with MythTV. Totally free and much better than Windows.
The web links page will point you to distributions that have MythTV built in. I believe KnoppMyth will run from the CD without having to install onto the PC.
Alternatively get a MacWindows is the path to the darkside...Windows leads to Blue Screen. Blue Screen leads to downtime. Downtime leads to suffering...I sense much Windows in you.0 -

I'm gonna give mediaportal ago soon. I'm not sure about MythTv is it just for Linux or can it be used with XP?0
