Quoted 1 price, listed as another

Hello,

Today I went to a used car sales garage and had a look at a Rover 45. The listed price was £995. I test drove the car and left a deposit.

I returned home and looked online and spotted the car on Autotrader listed at £795. I contacted the salesman and he assured me it was a mistake on Autotraders part, which is fine but I checked on the dealers website and it was also listed as £795 on there. These 2 webpages were saved and emailed over to the dealer and shortly after sending the emails the 2 webpages were taken down.

Can I claim my deposit back for this or even demand they reduce the price to the listed one?

I'd just like to know where I stand on this.

Thanks in advance

I don't think you'll be able to get your deposit back, no. You agreed a price you were happy with at the time. I'm guessing it was screen price 995 and online 795? Dealers do this all the time. How much deposit did you put down? Just thinking if its less than £200 you could say forget the deposit - I'll take it at 795...

Just being nosey now as I have a rover myself; which model 45 is it?

autotrader prices have to be quoted when you arrive at the sales emporium or you pay sticker price or negotiate a lower price
at the emporium you will normally see the cars at the higher price
one of the reasons bangers like this rover are priced up at say £995 is because a local will be purchasing it and so more likely to come back with niggles
the £795 autotrader buyer usually travels further and realises in the bigger picture its a caveat umpar price

of course if you go on a pitch and declare 'what you got for a grand'?? then yous gonna get you pants pulled:D

    sorry

PC World have many things that are one price on their website and a higher one in store even though you can order online at the web price and collect at the same store.

There is no rule or law which says they have to advertise the same price everywhere.
  • Dont tell me...you didnt haggle..and paid 995?
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.
  • I've seen this at local dealers on AutoTrader and eBay Classifieds where the price is lower than the screen price on the cars in the photos. Always just thought it to be old stock where they have reduced the price to shift the car since the photos were first taken.

    No, stop the assumptions.

I managed to haggle a fresh 12 months MOT and 6 months tax, and a bit extra for my car on part exchange.

And I have only paid the deposit, read the post.

6 months tax is at least £70
an mot is probably going to cost them a ton
then they have taken your old nail
    and you are asking questions
    grief
that rover must stand them at least weigh in value then

Im fully aware you only paid the deposit but you didnt say how much the agreed price was....in fact you didnt clarify much at all except that you didnt do any researching first.
