I might open my home as a zoo!

I am a sucker for animals!

Which means that having a friend who owns a pet shop doesn't help :D

He gave me my baby rabbit Lola for my birthday and recently gave me 2 baby budgies that I fell in love with!

I now have my English Bull Terrier, a giant rabbit, a rabbit, an Indian ringneck, 2 budgies, 2 Leopard geckos, 2 Corn snakes and fish!

Anybody else have their own zoo?

:D

  • My house used to get referred to as a Zoo, I had 2 cats, 2 dogs 5 rabbits and 3 guinnea pigs. I used to keep gerbils but didn't get any more after the last ones died as it was difficult keeping the cats away from them.

Now I only have 2 cats and 1 dog, which some people still think is a lot!!

I loved having more, but the cost of looking after them all properly was too much and I need to get the credit card back under control before I get anything else.
  • If I was allowed animals in my house I would have a zoo! One of my ambitions in life is to have my own animal sanctuary.

Be careful what you wish for.
We started with 3 rescue house rabbits.
    Currently we have;
    1 house rabbit,
    4 dogs,
    2 ferrets,
    3 chinchillas,
    4 sheep,
    4 pygmy goats,
    4 Alpacas,
    1 mini shetland pony,
    And 5 horses.
    (I think that's all)

I'm quite popular at the animal feed suppliers and the vets:D

I'm tempted to accept more almost daily....but....I realise part of what makes us a good home is having time and money enough for all of them and their possible problems.

e.g. DH and I would really like a new dog to add to our family ...NOW (actually two, one each). But our older dog is going to find that hard, and working with a third and fourth with old dog being awkwards and dog-dog recovering from a broken leg is not to the benefit of the existing two right now. Instead we'll consider the situation down the line. SImilarly, we have two house cats (we inherited 4 barn cats) and while I'd love two new kittens, our cats have dealt with sharing us with a barn cat who was ill and had to come in the house underduress, in a short year. I'd rather have kittens edstablished here before puppies....so it all feeds in. We have two retired horses amongst the herd out there, and we are actively keeping an eye out for one or more horses to join us, but its a long serch as who ever we buy stays until THE END,...and so want to make sure its the right horse, not just a horse who would be ok because once its here its family...whether it continues to meet our needs or not!

Sometimes you go to the homes of people who really genuinely love and care for their animals but don't realise they have too many. The animals get little one on one time, and show competitive or stressed behaviours and the owners ''don't mind'' and say ''what we do for them when we love them'' clearing a puddle left by a stressed cat or whatever, and fail to see that sometimes accepting no more is what we do for them when we love them.

me me me! We have about 30 chickens and 12 ducks (11 duck eggs in the incubator) and two dogs - and I have been considering adopting some cats which are no longer able to be looked after by their owners. :)

2 huskies, 3 adult cats at home and 2 sort of ferral cats I feed daily where I work and last week I rescued 3 4 week old kittens from another ferral - I have rehomed them all - unfortunately - lol:j I HAD to keep one of them - he is so adorable - but he only has three legs we've named him Rory (after character in Dr Who) - he is managing ok and is very quick when he wants to be - vets says stump may have to come off.

Have rehomed 297 kittens in the last 10 years from ferral cats where I work - all of the ferral mum's have been sprayed - but I have never managed to find any intact Tom cats.

An old gentleman I know always used to ask me "How is the little zoo". Also had a rescued parrot that I found in a tree and a goat that we found wandering around:rotfl:.

I love all animals - well apart from snakes even saying the word makes me shiver.
