I've just realised this telephone number keeps appearing on my BT phone bill, 3-6 calls a quarter for at least the last 18 months. I never phone 0871 numbers - I just called to check what it was, and I got a machine sounding a bit like a fax tone, but not.

I'm just wondering if it's related to my Streamline machine which is connected up to the line.

I've googled the number without success.

Does anybody else recognise it?

Streamline seems to be the culprit.

One way to confirm this is to call your streamline provider and ask them the number the terminal calls

THANK YOU! Fortunately I haven't been charged as much as some of the others on that thread, but Streamline will be getting a letter from me with a request for a refund.

Why? Did they say it was a free dial up connection?

They have never mentioned anything about premium telephone charges at all. Did you read the thread chalkie99 linked to?

It is Streamline,I have also been charged for calls to this number through October and contacted Streamline technical services who confirmed that it was them and gave me a download procedure for the terminal to stop being charged in the future and an address to send a copy of our phone bill for refund of calls.
We did have a replacement terminal through October so it may have been connected with that.

My streamline terminal has the option to run over the phoneline or ethernet. It takes a call and a wait of a couple of days but you can probably switch your machine over. It is worth doing as it then connects up faster and it won't be able to dial in to random numbers.

I know ther shouldn't be doing it anyway but this would be one way of making sure it doesn't happen again.

It's not a premium rate number though.

Well according to that thread, Streamline have been refunding people when they've been querying charges.

My BT bill lists it as Special Services.
