  • I'm about 7 months and 7000 miles usage into a £400 Astra F diesel (1997 11 months MOT when bought). Put a years tax on it for £230 and insurance is cheap. Bought off ebay never seen till it was picked up.

BIL is about 5 months into one as well, £500 but that was taxed and had a good MOT.

I've spent around £60 on it to date, this includes 2 tyres.

I know this is a bit of a thread revival but I found this thread while looking for some info on thecarstore.biz

I bought a car off them last week, the main reason was because I was really busy in work, desperate for a new car as the MOT was due on ours and it had no chance of passing without major work and the finance package was very good 5% over 45months and the car would be delivered to me in a couple of days.

The car I choose has turned out to be quite different to how it was described during the sale (evidence of accident repairs, poor ones at that, less MOT & TAX than promissed, a loud banging noise from the suspension) and also the finance arrangement ended up costing more than was previously agreed.

I have been collecting quotes from various places this week to give to thecarstore.biz tomorrow, so that I can have the car that I was promised but this is all alot of wasted time that I don't have.

So far I have not been impressed with the company, but I will reserve judgement untill they either agree or disagree to put that car into the condition it was promissed.

If they don't show willing to sort out all the problems, how would you suggest I proceed?
I have the right to reject the car, I am also within my 14day cool off period with the finance company.

Thanks for reading any advice would be great and please no 'serves you right for buying a car without viewing etc' comments, I know that now. :(

no offence but that is not what I have come on here to talk about and yes the finance is 5%. The amount I am borrowing is approx £5000, the amount I pay back is £5265 (117*45).

I am looking more for info on my rights after buying a car that wasn't as described etc.

It's just that I had a look at their site and there rates start from 7.8%, and well no offence, but I don't believe you on this point and I am wondering what other points should I believe or not.

  • I telephoned Consumer Direct [FONT=Default Sans Serif,Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=Default Sans Serif,Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]08454 04 05 06.
This was given to me by Trading Standards.
    I paid a `refundable`deposit on a car and was refused a refund.
They told me what to write in a letter.
Basically they broke the sale of goods act as the car was mis-described.
    I got my money back.

Looking on the site, they don't quote a price for the car, just a weekly equivalent. When you work out what some of the cars will cost over 5 years (like the old freelander), they are so overpriced they could easily afford to offer slightly lower rate finance.

It might be a sales technique - advertise finance from 7.8% and then offer 5% to a buyer to make them feel special and that they are getting a really good deal. The buyer just looks at the low weekly payment rather than the what the car will really cost of the car is over the 5 years

Finance is against the asset I should think. The finance company might support your rejection as it is their asset until you've paid for it. therefore they have an interest in making sure it's properly described.

    Good luck.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

    Thanks for the advice.

They refused the quotes that I gave them so the car is going into their bodyshop/workshop today so hopefully the issues will be sorted. I'll keep this thread updated.
