    Great tip thanks - if we go ahead with making ventilation slots I'll look into this as hubby has one of those drill bit sets with every size and shape imaginable.

    The kettle and toaster sit on the worktop above the fridge so ventilation holes wouldn't work too well anyway...

    Yes and just think of all the crumbs and the like falling through the holes!
