Iv'e been trying to sort a friends PC which has started to be problematic since the Ie7 upgrade was installed.
More often than not when accessing the net(with Ie7) a page comes up saying that we need to change our internet settings as we are using a proxy server, the message proceeds as follows:
USB Broadband or Dial-up
* click on Start (select Settings) and click on Control Panel
* double click Internet Options
* select the Connection tab
* highlight your 'default' dial-up setting and click on Settings
Ensure that the following do not contain a tick (as below)
* automatically detect settings
* use automatic configuration script
* use a proxy server for this connection
* bypass proxy server
If they do, click to remove the tick, then click on OK.
Click OK, then OK again to exit Internet Options.
Open Internet Explorer to test if you're able to view web pages.
OK so far, its just that the settings are and have always been as above, also the problem has never appeared when we use Firefox 2.
Firefox is set as the default browser so the problem does not come up unless we want to view a page in Ie7.
Any ideas?

Because thats circumventing a problem not solving it and of late fire fox has got a hammering and some serious flaws have recently come to light.0 -
Its also solving a problem if a piece of software isn't suitable for your needs. Its kind of like using excel as a database instead of access - it can do the job, but why if you have problems with it?0

No because you may have more than just a problem than IE playing up so its best to fix it anyway, especially if viewing pages that are not Fire Fox compatible and you need to use IE View.0
