Aviva/ Cunningham Lindsey Subsidence Claim

Good Morning Everyone.

This is my first post on MSE so please bear with me.
I have been reading other users threads relating to their subsidence insurance claims and they have been really helpful.
I thought I would start my own just to get a bit of moral support and also to document the process we are embarking on.

I wont go into too much technical detail here because I know it is impossible to diagnose a structural problem over the internet.

But the outline of our case is...

Our house was built in the late 1960's it is an end of terrace townhouse.
In 1997 before we bought the property some cracks appeared in the gable end wall and were monitored for 6 months by the previous owners insurers (I have the reports) then the worst effected replaced when no movement was found to have taken place.
When we bought the property in 2003 we had a surveyor report which stated the cracks were due to thermal expansion and purely cosmetic.
About a month ago we found some diagonal cracks around internal doorways I immediately went on a hunt around the house, found a few more and contacted Aviva insurance who are sending someone on Wednesday.
In the mean time I took the seat off a bench in the kitchen (which is on the first floor) pulled back some old carpet and found a 40mm gap between floor and wall. So there is something dreadfully amiss.

Sorry about the long post but its just to set the scene.
