Full laptop clean up following paypal fraud?

  • I use paypal regularly and have not had a problem thus far.

I did have a problem 18 months ago where the secure ID was being copied when trying to use Barclaycard for a web transaction - it was asking for my PIN. Luckily my PC kept locking up at that point. I couldn't get rid of it using AVG or Spy Bot and a few others. In the end I used Kapynskey (free through Barclays Online) and this did find something and cleared the problem.

I have since moved on as that AV seemed to slow down my PC a lot.

I also have two web browsers loaded, IE and Firefox, not sure if having both has left me more open?

I have Firefox and IE - I don't think one can get rid of IE? This issue is which browser do you use as default? I would never use IE unless I absolutely had to as it is more prone to security attacks.
Btw I'm not a tech guru but I thought it was recommended to scan and remove viuses in safe mode?

Second that - I loaded Firefox at the time of my problem and it was OK and I still use it as browser of choice.

  • I've used paypal since 2003 ish and never had any problems either. But many others have, the reports of which are well documented on the net. My advice to you would be not to have your bank account attached to the account, only a credit card. Because trust me, despite what happened being a blatant fraud, paypal refused to give me bac the money that was taken. All credit to Santander tho, as they had it sorted within 12 hours.....
